Boundary County School District School #101 will be requesting a renewal of our Supplemental Maintenance and Operation Levy on May 20, 2025. This is not a new levy and it will not increase your taxes per $100,000 of assessed value.
What is a Supplemental M&O Levy?
A Supplemental M & O LEVY is for LEARNING. It requires a simple majority or 50% + 1 “YES” vote to pass. This levy pays for safety, security, maintenance, all extra/co-curricular activities, special programs, maintaining personnel above what the State of Idaho funds, field trips, curricular materials, some technology, and a new bus each year. Our district currently runs an M&O Levy every 2 years. On average, local school districts in Idaho raise 20% of their budget through local M & O Levies.
Are we raising the Supplemental M & O Levy?
No, this M & O Levy is a REPLACEMENT levy. This is not a new tax. The levy amount has not increased since 2015. The annual request of $2.4 million will not change what you are currently paying in taxes.
Will there be any presentations or how can we ask questions?
There will be several presentations. We will post the time and dates on our website.
Please invite us to speak with your organization or group. You can call 208-267-3146 or email Jan Bayer, Superintendent, at jan.bayer@mail.bcsd101.com to schedule a time.
What is the tax impact of the Supplemental M&O Levy?
The Supplemental M & O Levy will state it will cost $96 per $100,000 of assessed property value. That is a tax decrease of $2 per $100,000 of assessed property value. After the application of HB 292, then the cost will be approximately $69 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
Is the Property Tax Reduction program (Circuit Breaker) going away?
No, the circuit breaker is NOT going away. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Cheryl Navarro, cnavarro@boundarycounty.id.org or call the assessor’s office at 208-267-3301.
What about homeschooling?
Currently, we open our doors to homeschool students and families. We welcome any students that want to attend our schools, even part time. Some families have selected to have their children attend drama, choir, band, and career technical courses. Other homeschool students and families participate in Robotics, Civil Air Patrol, Community Drama Performances, Community Orchestra, and use our gym facilities on the weekends. We also welcome any homeschool student to participate in our extra and co-curricular programs at no cost to the student. We want ALL kids in our community to benefit from our schools in any way their parents/guardians choose.
We had two individuals on our Facilities Committee that homeschool their children. We valued their input. One has lived in both worlds: homeschooling and public school. Both individuals believe in the direction we are going.
Lastly, we recognized there was a need to expand how we serve homeschooling families. This year we opened Boundary County Online School and we have filled all 100 slots. We will continue to find ways to serve all families in Boundary County.
