Special Trustee Meeting and Workshop

June 4, 2008 7:00 a.m.

District Office

 

A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of Boundary County School District No. 101 was convened at the above stated time and date, pursuant to authority provided by Section 33-510 and 67-2345, Idaho Code, and pursuant to affirmation by the clerk that written notice was conspicuously posted at the District Administration Office, Bonners Ferry High School, Boundary County Middle School, Valley View, Mt. Hall, Evergreen and Naples Elementary Schools, Bonners Ferry Herald Office, and the Boundary County Courthouse on the 2nd day of June, 2008. Trustees had actual notice of the time and date of meeting via telephone and e-mail.

 

Board Members Present: Chairman Melanie Staples, Vice-Chairman Tim Bertling and Trustees Gil Hagen Maria LaBarbera and Sulét Hiatt.

 

Superintendent Dr. Don Bartling and Diane Cartwright, Clerk-Treasurer were also in attendance.

 

Others present: Ted Reynolds, Curt-Randall Bayer, Ed Katz and Mike Brown. Exhibit 1

 

Opening

7:00 a.m. Chairman Melanie Staples called the special meeting to order.

 

Ms. Staples announced that no decisions would be made at this meeting.

 

First Reading: Policy 3305 and 3305(F) – postponed until the June 10, 2008 regular Board meeting.

 

Student Dress Code

Maria LaBarbara opened the discussion regarding establishing a student dress code. Sulét Hiatt discussed dressing for success. Tim Bertling stated he thought maybe a dress code could be implemented first at the elementary level. Sulét Hiatt stated she thought a dress code should be implemented district wide at the same time due to students from different grades being in the same family. High SchoolPrincipal Curt-Randall Bayer stated the high school currently has a dress code and it is in the student handbook. Ms. Staples stated a committee needs to be formed to research a student dress code and then report back to the Board. A decision whether or not to form a student dress code committee will be made at the June 10, 2008 regular Board meeting. 

 

Personnel

No personnel decisions were made.

 

Executive Session: Idaho Code 67-2345(a)(c) Personnel/Legal Report/Negotiations or Adjournment

7:17 a.m. Chairman Staples announced the next order of business would be discussion of personnel.  After a full and complete discussion upon a motion duly made by Tim Bertling and seconded by Maria Labarbera, the following resolution was adopted:

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of Boundary County School District No. 101 recess from a public meeting into an executive session pursuant to Section 67-2345, Idaho Code, for discussion of  personnel.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that following the executive session the board will reconvene in regular session for the purpose of conducting further business or for adjournment of the meeting.  Vote being had on the above and foregoing resolution and the same having been counted and found to be no less than two-thirds (2/3) of the membership in favor thereof, the chairman declared said resolution adopted.

 

The trustees entered an executive session at 7:17 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 and returned at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008.

 

9:10 a.m. Chairman Staples called the special meeting back to order.

 

Adjournment

9:11 a.m. Sulét Hiatt moved to adjourn the meeting. Gil Hagen seconded. Motion carried.
